UOP Splash Pool Readies for Makeover

I will always look back fondly on the two summers I spent with my kids at the Utah Olympic Park, where they participated in summer camps at the splash pool. As young mogul skiers, the pool was a great place to fine tune inverted tricks. Sitting on the upstairs deck, watching the kids train side-by-side with U.S. freestyle team members — as well as visiting teams from China, Australia and other countries — added to the spectator experience.

But even then, just a few years ago — and really not that long since the facilities had been built — it was apparent the splash pool was on borrowed time. The sketchy rusted deck railing was enough to make me wonder. Anyway…

Enter Project Big Air

The Utah Olympic Legacy, in partner ship with the USSA and a $1,000,000 Challenge Grant from Spencer F. Eccles, has initiated a crowd-funding campaign to to fund a sorely needed $3 million upgrade to the splash pool. The existing design primarily servers freestyle aerialists. The new design will include sport-specific ramps for freeskiing, freestyle skiers and snowboarders.
