Top Three Mountain Biking Utah Destinations

mountain biking Utah
The Beehive State is home to some of the best riding in the West—from Moab to Park City, and Vernal inbetween. Read on to learn about the best mountain biking Utah destinations, and the best mountain biking events, as we call them, here at Wasatch Rider.

Go for Gold in Park City, Utah

One of the best attributes Park City offers is the ability to hit several trail networks and dozens of trails without having to throw your bike on the back of your car or truck. Most trail networks are a short ride from residential and commercial lodging and also close to more than 150 bars and restaurants and a dozen bike shops. If getting to a trailhead requires more street pedaling than you like, hop on a free bike-friendly Summit County bus to get to your trailhead.

In addition to pedal power, Deer Valley and Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR) offer excellent lift-served riding. Deer Valley offers great flow trails and PCMR’s Canyons Village offers one of the world’s best technical bike parks. And finally, the community has a great free bike park in the Trailside Bike Park.

Combined with 400 miles of well-maintained and marked trails, is it any wonder the IMBA named Park City a Gold Ride Center? Here’s a summary:

  • Park City is an IMBA Gold Ride Center
  • Majority of trails are a short ride from residential and commercial lodging locations
  • Approximately 400 miles of continuous, non-motorized trails
  • 45 minutes from Salt Lake International Airport and close to the I-15 corridor
  • More than 150 restaurants and bars to choose from
  • More than a dozen bike shops
  • Two resorts with well-designed flow and bike park lift-served riding
  • Community managed Trailside Bike Park
It all started with Moab, Utah mountain biking Utah

Everyone needs to ride in Moab at least once in their life. From the famous Slick Rock to the Whole Enchilada, Moab trails have set the standard that all other trails aspire to. Sacred Rides does a great job highlighting 5 top rides in Moab.

Part of Moab’s allure is the town of Moab itself. Nothing special to the traveler moving through town whilst touring Utah’s Mighty Five, but slow down and notice how many MTBr’s are in town during the spring and fall. The vibe is great and, despite being in the middle of the desert, you will feel right at home.

The Colorado River and desert winds have carved some impressive topography throughout the Moab area, which is why so many riders opt to camp during their visit. Here’s a summary:

  • Some of the most unique trail riding in the world
  • Great camping and inexpensive lodging
  • Shuttle services expand your ride options
  • Close proximity to Arches and Canyonlands national parks
  • Rating opportunities in the Colorado River
Riding with Dinosaurs in Vernal, Utah

When you arrive in Vernal, you know it. Everywhere you look are reminders of the area’s paleontological history. Dinosaurs are everywhere in Vernal.

With great riding in three distinct trail networks, Vernal is fast becoming a top mountain biking Utah destination. Trail networks like McCoy Flats, Flaming Gorge and Red Fleet are substantial enough to keep you grinning for days.

Like Moab, Vernal offers some great camping opportunities. Unlike Moab, the town hasn’t quite developed a super MTB culture, but it is happening. We recommend camping and making runs to town for grub and grog.
